1944 year. Mikhailovsky. Pushkin mountains. Each of the locals "chooses his own path." Someone went into partisans, someone collaborates with the invaders. There are those who hope to ride out without choosing a side. One of these is the rural "southpaw" Sergey - a man of unique abilities. Frau Maria Schiller, a professor of literature and a specialist in Pushkin’s creativity, comes from Germany to Pushkin village. She heads the museum and conducts excursions for Wehrmacht soldiers and local peasants, telling them about the great Russian poet. The front is getting closer and closer, and soon an order comes from Berlin - to take out all historical values from Mikhailovsky. Neither the partisans nor Sergey, who is connected with Frau with unacceptable and destructive relations for both, can in no way allow this.
